We had our quarterly meeting last night at Mack Cycle and Fitness. We had about 25 members show up, pizza and prizes were given out to those members that paid attention and answered trivia questions!
Topics that were discussed we as follows:
New members were welcomed, and renewal fees were collected.
Frenchy gave the club some good news, we have been told by the city that they will be building bathrooms, showers and a bike wash. Of course it will take time as many city projects do but they will be there!
Some more good news was also shared. The city has granted us some more land to build trails along arthur lamb road. This trail will start where the road into the park splits and will end along Jimbos. This will be a two way trail intended for families and for all of those that would like to add about two miles to their ride. This trail will be started later this year, so stay tunned for info.
The other big surprise at the meeting was the official unveiling of some of the signs that will be up for the one year aniversary party. Everyone loved the signs and we will have a sign hanging party as the aniversary draws closer.
Another important topic discussed is the Tour de Cure, we will be hosting the first EVER mountain bike diabetes event in South Florida. We are encouraging all of out members and volunteers to come out February 12th and show your support, even if you dont sign up for the ride come out and cheer on the riders!
Other News
Party!!!!! Save the date, Sunday February 19 will be the grand opening celebration, we will have TONS of food, group rides and prizes for all of the club members. And perhaps the most important thing for that day, the new trail will be opened on that day for all those of you that show up. Everyone is invited but members and their families eat for free, for everyone else we will be acepting donations either in the form of supplies, money or you could just sign up for membership on the spot.
Since i just mentioned money, the club recieved a grant last year which has been used partially for supplies and for park beautification. We are working on trying to get another grant in order to build more trails and to further beautify our park. So fingers keep those fingers crossed!
Thank You
A big thank you goes out to all of those who have donated their time and materials, some have chosen to remain anonymous but it has to be said that without everyones contributions to the trail we would not have what we have now.
As for some of the other donors:
Mack Cycle continues to be one of our biggest donors. MJ and her crew have been kind enough to open up their shop for our meetings and they have donated a large amount of supplies to the trails.
Andrew Leeds from Bike Werx has also been very generous and has donated 9 pallets of pavers that you will all be seeing out on the trails to help with some of the erosion problems that we have had.
Campos construction, and Jason have been super genorus with donations of heavy equipment, with out them the trail we are currently working on would never of been started.
And last but not least our favorite catorer Aaron from Sidewalk Salads for comming out and providing us with some amazing food.
I know that i have not named everyone that has been kind enough to donate materials or labor to the trails, but without all of you none of this would of even been possible.
