Today we spent some time extending the catwalk on “Start Me Up” or as some people know it as”DERM Trail” or “That first trail”.
Anyway, no matter what you call it this entire trail is a protected restoration area that we need to be good stewards of and so far we’re not doing a good job as riders. We CANNOT have people riding off trail in this area. Much of the plants and small tree’s just off the side of this trail are protected natives trying to take hold. We understand sometimes there will be standing water or mud but that is no excuse on mountain bikes to cut off trail and damage the surrounding area.
We extended the catwalk to hopefully do two things. Get people out of the mud and to also stop people from riding off trail and damaging the surrounding area.
This is the longest trail in the park at 1 mile. If we damage it we can lose it, which would be a MAJOR loss to the park with much larger consequences.
