We will be collecting unwrapped, new toys again this year for CHARLEE (CHARLEE is an acronym for Children Have All Rights: Legal, Educational, Emotional.) starting this weekend. They were super grateful for our donations last year, they have children of all ages and teenagers. Here is an idea from their webpage as to items that can be donated, games, gift cards, electronics, toys, pretty much anything a kid would want to have. Let’s give and let those foster and at-risk children feel the love of the VKBC members!
A lot of fun events have been going on these past couple months! A reminder that it is time to renew your membership for 2015 if you haven’t yet. Membership runs from Jan 1 till Dec 31 and is $20. When you are a member, you will receive emails about secret night rides, and the money goes towards building better trails! For an additional $30 you can get a Virginia Key Bicycle Club jersey.
Congratulations to our new E-board for next year! Jerri Halkowich – President, Frenchy – VP, John Voss – Treasurer, Board – Mary Jane, Nathan Sade, Alain Bitton, Jodi Mazzone
Congratulations to Elito on getting married! Some of the crew were able to share the big day!
The VK40 was a success and some of our crew participated on their new fat bikes!
Take A Kid Mountain Biking Day was a huge success!
We also had a very special appearance by Alec, who is blind, and got to ride a mountain bike for the first time. The crew helped him through the trails and he had an amazing time!
Also, new cool signs (made by Elito) have been added around the trails, and Jimbo’s trail has been extended. Remember, you can come out every Sunday (and once a month for a Big-Ass maintenance day) to help build trails and features and keep our park pristine! Free catered lunch by Aaron and Sidewalk Salads, who also owns the restaurant Salt across from Virginia Key entrance. We appreciate all the volunteers!
