Hello everyone!
So much has happened at our lovely trail in such a short time! New trials being built, great events, and races! Now that the sun is out later, you can enjoy riding after work until sunset every day! Remember, no riding after sunset, if you need a light to ride, you are riding at night and in the trails illegally.
Enter our GIANT BIKE RAFFLE generously donated by MACK CYCLE, all proceeds will go to the club! The tickets for the GIANT XTC.27.5 2 bicycle raffle are $12.00 each or 2/20.00 and the raffle will run through the month of March and the bike will be on display at the MACK CYCLE tent on the weekends. You can get the tickets from Frenchy over the weekend at the tent. The bike will be on display at the MACK TENT on the weekends.
Just over a week ago, a new trail was completed and opened! This trail is an extension of the Stairway to Heaven advance section at the end of Wild Thing. Almost an additional mile of huge berms, drops, jumps, bridges, and climbs have been added. You will notice the first change takes place while still in the intermediate section. A large step climb takes you away from the old trail, where you will find a new wooden logover. Then continue towards the advanced section. Take the bridge flyover leading you down a set of stairs to a steep drop, followed by a gnarly berm that lets you get some air over a little hill. Be careful on the next climb, its a little steep and sandy and veers sharply to the right. Then enjoy flying through the bushes on a long descent. Take the berm up and to the left to go over some small logovers, and then a little bridge. Next you are going to face a longer bridge over a huge pit filled with snakes and sharp objects. Ok ok, its not really filled with snakes, but it is pretty scary. After this you will encounter a huge drop that leads to a big tabletop where you can get some sweet air. Stick to the right to avoid the sharp incline in the middle. A few small berms and humps will lead you to a another steep drop, large berm, and a steep climb. You will find another wooden bridge, but you have to go up this one, then you will make your way through some still soft dirt, one more big berm, and out under the flyover back to the original trail. It really is a sweet rollercoaster that you will want to ride over and over again!
Virginia Key also hosted a successful kids day, big ass trail maintenance day, and our 3 year anniversary party!
The Coconut Cup race was also held at Virginia Key. A lot of regulars showed up to prove their skills, including Mateo, Nico, Simone, Tom, and Jose. And some of our very own Honies participated in their first race or first solo race, like Nohelia, Patti, and Maria. Congrats to the Virginia Key regulars who participated in both the Coconut Cup and FSC series! A huge THANK YOU goes out to those who cheered the riders on during the race!
Don’t forget, part of the trails will be closed due to a restoration project. Highway to Hell and Run through the Jungle (Learning to Fly intermediate extention) are closed during this whole process. These extensions will not be coming back but we are working with the City to have more space to expand since we are losing that mileage. Virginia Key will be open from 3:30 pm until sunset on weekdays, and open from Sunrise to Sunset on weekends.
